MSP430: Cannot enter debug using CrossStudio 3.0 with MSP-EXP430G2
W7 64bit, CrossStudio V3, CPU Support Package V3.1
A friend of mine just got an EXP430G2 yesterday, and we are seeing a debug issue with CrossWorks. I can connect to it (correctly identifying the CPU, have done this with a G2553, F2002, and F2003), download code to it using the FET430UIF(V2) and the code will execute, but I am unable to debug/step into/access breakpoints. Note that all works fine with my other projects using 4 wire JTAG and my V2 UIF. I have not used CrossWorks for any SBW programming/debugging before on my own projects, but have a number of designs utilizing SBW in fab now, so I'll soon be using it more broadly.
Here's what I see happening:
Target: Download:
Connecting -> Completed
Erasing -> Completed
Downloading -> Download Successful
Verifying -> Verify Successful
Code will automatically start executing on its own (no debug) blinking LED on P1.0
Build and Debug:
Erasing -> Completed
Downloading -> Download Successful
Verifying -> Verify Successful
Memory read failed: Could not read device memory
Build and Run:
Erasing -> Completed
Downloading -> Download Successful
Verifying -> Verify Successful
Processor run failed: Could not run device (to breakpoint)
Everything except debug works. Also, everything works fine in CCS6 (can execute with breakpoints), except for the fact that it is CCS.
Can provide more detail if needed. When I get a chance, I will try SBW via my external V2 UIF, bypassing the UIF built onto the LaunchPad board.

FYI, I can program and debug over SBW through my MSP-FET430UIF (which uses the V3 driver). The EXP430G2 LauchPad will only connect with the V2 driver. I can't figure out if it can be upgraded like all the UIF programmers were some time ago (it certainly doesn't auto upgrade when connecting to CrossStudio, CCS, or other environments). I'm sure that's at the heart of the issue.
Either way, operating fine now using the UIF and FET programming tools. Resolution as to why the LaunchPad's programmer doesn't work would be nice, but it's not a big deal.
