minor screen layout issues

I am working on a Mac and I don't know if these issues are platform specific.

The "Select Active Perspective" drop down occupies the top row of the window and I can't put any toolbar buttons on that row.  There is just a big blank space which is a minor annoyance when working on a laptop w/ a small screen.

In fullscreen view, the status bar on the bottom is not visible.
