Display number of characters selected in Status Bar

I find it helpful on occasion to be able to get a count of the characters selected in the editor. Particularly when working with strings, you need to know the character count. This could be placed next to line and column number.

Plus, this one should be easy to code. Five minutes worth, right? :-P

  What do you count a end of line as?  Zero, one, or two characters?

  Zero. I'd prefer only counting the visible characters selected. Thanks!
