ST has introduced this MCU with integrated 802.15.4 radio.  I assume it will become popular since it contains a Cortex M3 core.  Other manufacturers have all-in-one parts, but they tend to contain old or proprietary 8 bit cores.

  This device is like an Ember device and suffers the same problem: no documentation for the radio and no real enthusiasm from Ember to add additional compiler support.
