How can I check that my program has been downloaded correctly?

You can verify that the program in target memory matches the current executable at any time by selecting the Debug > Verify menu option.

Verification will be carried out automatically after each download if the Tools > Options > Target > Enable load verification option is enabled. Note that this is enabled by default.
