New TI MSP-FET Flash Emulation Tool not Working with Rowley CrossWorks Development Environment

I am using Rowley CrossWorks version 2.2.1 with a new MSP-FET Flash Emulation Tool and when I try to connect to my target board I get the error message “Can’t connect to target USB: Could not initialize device interface”.  My old MSP-FET430UIF MSP430 USB-Debug-Interface works fine with CrossWorks.

The drivers are installed and the Flash Emulation Tool shows up in Windows Device Manager.  It also works with the Texas Instruments MSP430Flasher program version 1.3.7.  I have upgraded and downloaded Support Packages, DLL files and Firmware for CrossWorks to try and get the tool to work.  I have been searching for solutions on both Rowleys and Texas Instruments websites and forums and have run out of things to try.  Any help to get this tool working would be greatly appreciated.

  I was using 2.1 and I think I had to 'upgrade' to 3.1 to get the black USB FET to work.

  3.1 largely works better however I have had it crash many times when using the editor.
