CrossStudio icon disappears after logging out on Ubuntu 10.04 and 10.10 [annoyance]

Symptom

When installing CrossWorks under Ubuntu 10.04 and 10.10, the CrossStudio icon initially appears in the Applications > Programming menu after installation however the icon disappears after logging out or rebooting.

Workaround

Option 1:

1. Open a terminal window
2. cd /usr/share/applications
3. sudo rm desktop.*.cache
4. Log out and then back in again 

Option 2:

1. Install or remove any application using the Ubuntu Software Centre or Synaptic Package Manager
2. Log out and then back in again

Affects

All versions of CrossWorks running under Ubuntu 10.04 and 10.10.
